Maren Leizaola is the founder of HK.COM. Ten years ago he registered this Hong Kong most wanted domain name. Maren has a couple thousands more premium domain names. He could turn it into the biggest domain real estate business in Hong Kong. But this isn’t what Maren is interested.
Today, Maren is probably the largest computer hardware liquidator in Hong Kong. Last Monday I was sitting in HK.COM office surrounded by 130 Sun Microsystems servers. Maren and I were chatting about Hong Kong IT business scene. He also showed me an email solution called Mailfort. If you are thinking to change your email solution, check this and send Maren an email. He has something really sexy with rock solid anti-spam capability.
When I asked Maren about his favorite website, he ranked Slashdot his number one in the world and Geoexpat his number one in Hong Kong. I know Shriram Chaubal very well, the guy behind Geoexpat.com and a professional community builder. Shri is certainly one of the best Internet marketers and SEO in town. So, no question about Maren’s choice.
Talking about Hong Kong, Maren doesn’t really think this is a place for IT. Because if someone is seen as IT talent, the next thing would be “… so how can I rip him off to get me rich…” This is why Maren thinks Hong Kong is a place of rip off, not for IT.
Currently Maren is working on an Internet project about carbon rating. He is quite a character, an expert in computer networking. You may see him as a geek, but he doesn’t live inside his box. In this tiny little city, Maren Leizaola has a big vision.
