Life In Hong Kong Digital Marketing

06.15.08 | Comment?

It has been 2 weeks without blogging because of too many things for too little time. In the last two weeks, my hands and brain were on both the B2B and B2C projects like an integrated digital marketing mix for a trade show, viral marketing for a FMCG brand, lead engagement campaign for a US chemical company in China, SEO for a shopping mall in Hong Kong, etc. This is my life in a boutique agency.

Through working with all the fellow marketers, I find a commonality across the wide spectrum of practice. Today CPC seems the sole benchmark for media buying. I am also amazed by the guaranteed clicks which is commonly offered by the online media in China. A small scale 20-million impression campaign can generate 20,000 clicks and this is a guaranteed result, or you get the money back. They must have a secret recipe to accomplish the mission.

Marketers in this region are picking up paces for digital practice. Trade show marketers are looking for blog marketing solution, facebook fan page and twitter are being adapted in the mix to drive buzz effect, sem/seo have been totally commoditified.

Overall, there are lot of good actions in the local marketing scene. Although still a lot of marketers are neglecting the analytics, digital marketing is no longer a life in ivory tower. Certainly not anymore…
